Does AdSense make you look like a homeless?
Posted: May 12th, 2009 | Author: Joaquin Baez | Filed under: Uncategorized | 1 Comment »Right after opening this blog, I wandered around all the customizing options at blogger.com, from templates, fonts and styles to RSS feed configuration. Nevertheless, there is a mysterious tab among configuration options named “Monetize”; it refers to the possibilities of earning some cents allowing AdSense ads display on your blog. Obviously, I’ve signed up to that; after all, all it takes is some tiny little ads on a small sidebar on the right to the blog posts and one medium sized ad every 3 or 4 posts.
Let’s face it: AdSense payments programme is quite laughable, put aside it’s too complex for deep studying it, and this site, a site that’s 1 day old, scores low to make me a billionaire.
But on the other hand, every blog I read about clearing my financial situation talk about the need of increasing the cash income, and they themselves explain how advertising brings them an extra income (well, you can tell: some of them sum up to 80.000 subscribers).
Anyway, I must admit I don’t like the looks of AdSense, I dislike the looks of blogs displaying tons of ads around each and every corner of the site; I hate those who place ads in the middle of a post disturbing the reading of it. It’s worse when these are humble blogs and personal websites, as it shows off the user’s not willing to pay his own hosting service which would allow him to show up the total control over his web with not and unwanted banner showing.
So, the question I ask myself (and I ask you all): Should I keep AdSense on at my blog or should I not?
And what would Vicenç think about that?
